These Two Fellows Are Not Happy
If you read My Climate Story, you know that when I wrote I ”feel pretty darn angry about it all” it is an understatement. We are in a climate predicament that results from decades of lies, greed, greenwashing, and denial. And thinking about all that can make you pretty perturbed. However, I do my best to express my thoughts in ways that avoid amplifying anger or putting forward words of self-righteous rancor. But a loud or riled-up response to climate change is appropriate.
While doing my best to keep up with environment, energy, and climate news, two angry men recently came to my attention. Both were people you probably know, and I hope you respect. And boy, both of these guys sounded quite upset! One made his points loudly and with strong words, the other with pointed writing. They are doing exactly what I would like to do: scream from the rooftops and forcefully get the word out — LIKE IN ALL CAPS! — that we cannot let the anti-science propagandists of climate denial and misinformation go on even one minute longer.
I will not waste your time by having you read my summary of what they had to say. Instead, my first challenge to you is to take a few minutes to listen to rip-roaring-mad Nobel Laureate Al Gore share what the fossil fuel industry does not want you to know.
My second request will take longer but contains a call to action that no one should ignore. Please read Laudate Deum and hear what Pope Francis has to say as he emphatically lets world leaders know that climate change is reaching a point of no return. The Pontiff challenged them, and all of us, to pay attention to sound science and act on climate change before it is too late. Please peruse Laudate Deum — or at least read an article about it — and take the Holy Father’s words to heart.

It is time to share your thoughts and fears around climate issues with family, friends, and neighbors. The carbon pollution crisis is a challenge that we can solve by talking about it and working together. Small individual actions can multiply to help change course to create a healthy you and a healthy earth.
